Below is a list of organisations in and around RCT that you may find useful as they provide a wide range of advice and support for people with mental health problems, their carers and families. However this list is by no means comprehensive and is therefore constantly being updated. Aberdare Childrens Contact Centre Aberdare Law Courts Contact Carol Peeke, Telephone : 01685 884001 The six Children's Contact Centres in Aberdare and surrounding areas provide neutral meeting places where children from separated families can spend quality time with non-resident family members when there is no viable alternative. The Centres' aims are to alleviate the hardship and distress children often feel during this difficult time in their lives. |
The ACT family work project provides Support, education, and advice to families where a family member is experiencing a severe and enduring mental health problem. |
Adref We are a housing charity who works in partnership with other agencies to address homelessness by supporting vulnerable people in a range of housing projects or in the client's own home. |
Age Concern Age Concern provides outstanding support to older people living in the community, to prevent admission to hospital and to help them maintain independence whilst living in their own homes. |
Al-Anon Al-Anon is worldwide and offers support and understanding to the families and friend of problem drinkers whether the alcoholic is still drinking or not. For details of meetings throughout the UK and Eire please contact the helpline. |
Alzheimer's Society We support people with dementia and their carers and families. We provide Support workers for info and advice, carers meetings, information courses and caring grants. |

ASSIST Trauma Care ASSIST Trauma Care provides evidence-based therapy for those suffering the effects of psychological trauma, in particular Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). |
Ategi Adult Placement Service (APS) Ategi Adult Placement Service offers short breaks within the homes of individually assessed and trained individuals, couples or families. Breaks are generally arranged through Care Managers and people are matched depending on their likes, dislikes, activities and needs. |

Brook Advisory Centres LTD Brook Central Brook centres protect, promote and preserve the sexual and reproductive health of young people by educating them in matters relating to sexual behaviour, contraception, sexually transmitted infections and unwanted pregnancy. |
Brynawel House Alcohol Rehabilitation Centre Brynawel House provides residential treatment and rehabilitation for people expereincing alcohol dependency, we also provide day services. |
Bryncynon Strategy/Healthy Living Centre We are a community regeneration project offering a range of services for young children and families; young people; learning and volunteering opportunities; and projects to improve health and all aspects of wellbeing. |

We are a voluntary Christian counselling service for clients over the age of 16 years. We deal with depression, anxiety, relationships, bereavement, addictions, domestic violence, abuse, self-esteem and rejection. We never impose our religious faith or belief on clients. |

Carers Support Project Opening Hours: Monday to Friday 9.00am to 1.30 pm and 2pm to 5pm The Carers Support Project provides support, counselling and information for people caring for others. It operates a freephone CarersLine (0808 100 1801) and also a carers telephone counselling service. The project also produces a Carers Pack, quarterly newsletters, pamper days, workshops and trips, all of which are free to carers in Rhondda Cynon Taf. |
Carers Wales Our work involves improving the lives of carers by raising awareness of the needs of carers and campaigning for change, helping carers become more aware of their own role and status in the community, providing information, advice and support to carers enabling them to make their own choices about providing care. |
Citizens Advice Bureau Confidential advice and information for all including benefits advice, debt, employment, representation at appeals. This service is free. Citizens Advice Bureau We provide free, confidential and impartial advice to anyone who needs it regardless of race, gender, sexuality or disability. |
Combat Stress We are the only organisation since 1919 helping ex-service men/women suffering psychological injury to the mind due to their service career. We have a network of 12 welfare officers who visit clients at home a 3 different treatment centres. |
Community Health Council The key function of the Community Health Council is to represent the interests of the public in the health service in Merthyr and Cynon Valleys. |

Community Music Wales We provide opportunities for groups of people to create and play their own music. We provide tutors and instruments for people to take part in workshops. CMW have to find funding for projects, often working in partnership with other organisations to provide music activities for their client groups. |

Cruse Bereavement Care Cruse provides one-to-one and group support/counselling information and advice to the bereaved, and information and advice to professionals dealing with the bereaved. |

Dial UK Dial UK is the national organisation for the DIAL network- approximately 135 disability advice centres run by and for disabled people. DIALs give free independent advice on all aspects of disability over the telephone and in drop-in centres: many can arrange to visit less mobile clients in their own homes. |
Disability Employment Advisor (DEA) The DEA helps people with health problems/disabilities find and keep suitable employment. Support available includes advocacy and specialist job matching, in-depth occupational assessment, advice on in-work benefits, work preparation/placements, advice on keeping a job and much more. Women's Aid Women’s Aid is a registered charity set up to enable women and children to escape from domestic abuse. We offer support together with emergency temporary accommodation. In addition we are able to offer support to women and children living in the community through our outreach service and 24 hr on call and drop-in service. We also recruit volunteers from the local community. |
