Local Support for Carers in Rhondda Cynon Taf

Rhondda Cynon Taf runs a Carers Support Project which offers a Freephone Carers Line, offering information to Carers about a variety of subjects and a comprehensive Carers pack. They also produce a newsletter, telephone and face to face counselling, assist in establishing local carers groups and have a free carer’s telephone counselling service. When someone develops an illness it can often be far too easy to focus on their needs and put aside your own. This is not a good idea. Carers cannot continue sproviding support unless they are looking after themselves. Keeping yourself well is in the best interests of everyone, so remember to make time for you.

Mental Health Carers Groups

There are two informal support groups for carers of people with mental health problems, one in the Taff Ely area and one in the Cynon valley, both of which are open to Carers from the Rhondda area.

These groups meet once a month at a local venue and aims to offer support and friendship to carers in a similar situation. Carers are invited to come along, enjoy a cup of tea and a chat, get involved in choosing speakers and deciding what activities the group would like to undertake in the future. These groups offer support for carers of those with mental health problems within Rhondda Cynon Taf.
