A Calling From The Darkness

I had no joy when I was young and I was in my prime,
For I lived a life of darkness through vice my life I’d climb,
A weary road so tiresome I fell from light to dark,
And scrambled through the corridors unto nothing did I hark.

A weary road I travelled on lonely dark and glum,
Embarking on a journey to drift from slum to slum,
Narcotics took a hold of me my choices foolish were,
From harlot on to temptress for sex I went to her.

Then a light appeared from nowhere upon my darkest day,
And snatched me from the evil one I heard a voice then say,
“My son why come back home to me and in my house now dwell”,
I’ve released you from the evil one unbound you from the spell.

I searched this voice both far and wide I waited eagerly,
For it to come and lift away the shadows far from me,
I entered different houses I even joined a cult,
But realized from its teachings from its grasp that I must bolt.

And then from out of nowhere a friend asked me to come,
To church with her and worship the great and mighty one,
I knew that day that it was right I opened up my heart,
Let Jesus in and closed the door so he could not depart.

Weeks later I was baptized so clean and fresh was I,
I reached up to the heavens knowing I will never die,
I thanked the Lord so openly for saving wretched me,
And wrote it down on facebook so one and all could see.

I’m free now from those dark old days unto the light I shine,
Holding dear the covenants of his word, in this new life of mine,
One promise I will make though I’ll share the word with all,
And pass the gift that I now have to those both great and small.
